Where in space do you put annotation?

For as many years as I can remember, there have been debates over whether to put dimensions and text in model space or paper space. It does seem like the war is not as fierce as it was several years ago. I've found that most users put their dimensions, text, and other annotation in model space unless it is something that would be on all layouts such as a note.

Annotation has become even friendlier in recent years with the annotation scaling as well as the ability to freeze certain layers per viewport.

While I have always dimensioned my model in model space, I am open to discussions of reasons for those of you that want to dimension in paper space. I keep an open mind and don't claim to know all. Most often when I ask this question of others, it turns out that users may have just been taught to dimension in paper space or to have simply not known any other way due to lack of more formal training.

So what do you do and why?

Beth,

I am currently trying to institute policy at my very small design firm in NJ. We are using PS/MS but I was wondering how to set the dim and txt up properly. Is there some sort of chart out there? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

I put annotation in model space except for notes that I may put in Paperspace.

I do know people who put annotation in paperspace.

Check the Autodesk University site for 2008 and download my handout on CAD Standards. This will show you how to set up text and dim.

There is a chart we used to use for text size, but with annotation scaling it's no longer needed.
